Curriculum

Early childhood education

with purpose

At James Street, whanaungatanga is the cornerstone of our curriculum. We embrace the strong reciprocal relationships between ākonga, whānau, and kaiako which help to guide ākonga in their learning and development.

Our curriculum fosters taha hinengaro, allowing ākonga to freely express their thoughts and feelings, nurturing a love for learning and creating lifelong, independent learners.

Expert

care

With our qualified, dedicated team that feels more like family, we strive to create a warm and familiar environment for all. Every ākonga has their own ‘key teacher’ who takes care of their daily routines and stays in touch with whānau, making sure we understand and meet their unique needs.

Our kaiako find so much joy in being present for every ākonga journey, supporting their growth and celebrating their milestones, from the early nursery days all the way to school.

Nature inspired

experiences

At James Street, nature-inspired experiences are interwoven into our curriculum. Our generously sized natural play area provides endless opportunities for exploration, physical development and curiosity. Ākonga are also actively involved in maintaining our herb garden and fruit trees.

Building and demonstrating Kaitiakitanga is important to us at JSP, so that our ākonga develop a lifelong appreciation for nature. We utilise nature and our local  community to help us learn about and embrace our own and other cultures ensuring all  ākonga feel a strong sense of whanaungatanga.

Educa learning

profiles

We document and update each ākonga progress in their individual learning profiles. These profiles are stored both in printed format and online through our Educa profile system.

Educa provides a convenient platform for busy working parents and extended families who may not be local to Ōtautahi but still want to actively participate in the  learning of their ākonga.
