Both our indoor and outdoor environments are purpose-built to reflect the holistic way our ākonga learn and develop, with the flexibility to accommodate all ages and needs of ākonga.

Our

routines

The James Street Preschool programme is carefully considered to support cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. Encompassing experiences such as art, literacy, speech and drama, music and movement, mathematics, science, and regular outings that broaden the horizons of ākonga.

We strongly believe in fostering a sense of curiosity and lifelong learning in our ākonga, encouraging them to pursue their interests and explore the world around them.

Experience

James Street Preschool caters to ākonga aged 2½ to 6 years old, and promotes a healthy balance of free-play and structured learning.

We believe that learning should be a joyous experience, which is why we embrace play-based curriculum that develops crucial life skills like teamwork, communication, and building self-esteem.

Transition to

school

Our Moa Group caters to ākonga aged 4 ½ years and up, offering them the opportunity to engage in small group learning experiences within a calm and focused environment. Ākonga have the opportunity to engage in a varied curriculum that is responsive to their needs, interests, and strengths.

Our kaiako scaffold ākonga to develop their resilience, independence, self-help, self-awareness, problem-solving, and to be actively involved in their learning to support their transition to School. Ākonga are given time and space to grow their love of learning where they can be courageous, joyful, and express themselves through their strong sense of Ūkaipōtanga.

We recognise that choosing an early childhood provider can be a challenging decision.

Thank you for nurturing our gorgeous wee boy Sebby. He will always remember your love and kindness as well as challenging his inquisitive mind. He tells me he has had a great time at preschool and lately enjoying Moa group. Tom and I will miss chatting with all the preschool teachers and hearing about Sebbys day. Tonia and Murray, you should be very proud of creating such a great team. Kylie I really appreciate your listening ear and reassurance of things over the years. You’re a huge asset. Megan and Miyo – your beautiful food is still Sebbys favourite, we appreciate the care and passion you put into making good kai.

We love to hear everything that Rupert has been experiencing at nursery and how he is developing. We get to see a lot of this time at home of course but it is great to know what he is doing in his own wee world so we can keep encouraging the sparks you ignite for him.
